The top 10 cars Australians loved in February
Each month, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries releases a report detailing the top-selling vehicles across Australia. Pickles’ monthly vehicle report presents the top 10 vehicles from this list and recounts industry news and trends as they affect the Australian market.
Market snapshot
2023 is shaping up to be a strong year for vehicle sales, with February receiving the highest results for the month since 2019. Overall, this is a total increase of 1.8% compared to the same period in 2022. The growing number of zero and low-emission car sales, including battery electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, continued in February and amounted to 6.8% of sales for the month. This is unsurprising given the consumer appetite to switch to cars that are more environmentally sound, and also more fuel efficient given rising fuel costs that continue to impact household budgets.
Orders have increased YoY for the first 2 months of 2023, and this is expected to continue throughout the year. As the backlog of already-ordered vehicles slowly but surely arrives, another wave of Australian consumers are now preparing to buy. As new car production kicks back into gear, Australians are predicted to restart ordering from trusted international brands. Japan continues to be Australia’s largest producer of new vehicles in 2023, followed by Thailand and China respectively.
